Base malts are white malts crafted from premium malting barley varieties and are selected to provide the necessary levels of soluble nitrogen, extractable sugars and enzyme activity for the perfect mash.
We offer a variety of different base malts, which can often be provided in the form of an Ale or Extra Pale colour specification. Our Ale Malts are perfectly suited to produce some of the finest Pale Ale beers, whereas our Extra Pale Malts can be the perfect canvas to a superb Blonde or lighter coloured beer. The malts give the beer its malt-flavoured, sweet backbone and palate fullness. Lighter malts can also be kilned in a special way to leave flavour precursors that can help create exciting new flavour attributes in the final beer.

Vienna Malt is made on a conventional malt kiln and is cured at moderately higher temperatures than pale malt. Its origins lie in Vienna or amber lagers, but Vienna Malt will give golden hues to other beers and will develop body and mouthfeel. It retains sufficient enzyme activity to be used as base malt in all-malt grists.
